Marques targets first-team spot

The Angola international has only made two pre-season appearances following an Achilles injury, but his level of performance in the draw with Blackburn at the weekend has only steeled his determination to make it into Simon Grayson's plans for August 8. "It's always my aim to be part of the team, not to be on the bench. I find it hard to be happy when I don't get the chance to play and it's a good feeling to have a match like that behind me," Marques told the Yorkshire Evening Post. "In a way it's a relief as well because I only started training with a ball at the start of last week and my pre-season took a long time to get started. "Blackburn was only my second game, but I still felt I could get my place back and I'm really pleased with my performance and the team's. "Before I went out I knew I wasn't in perfect condition, but everyone can see how close the start of the season is. I can't hide how much I want to be in the team because I only enjoy football when I'm playing."
