Smith still banned for Leeds

Leeds striker Matt Smith will miss the home game against Ipswich as he serves the second game of his three-match ban.

Smith was shown a straight red card in the recent thrashing at Sheffield Wednesday and Luke Varney is expected to continue after stepping in against Leicester. El-Hadji Diouf, who has not started a game since September, provides boss Brian McDermott with an alternative option.

Midfielders Alex Mowatt and Luke Murphy are pushing for recalls and January signings Cameron Stewart and Jimmy Kebe are hoping to make their third appearances for the club.

Leeds, who have lost their last five matches in all competitions, are chasing their seventh home league win of the season.

Experienced full-back Frazer Richardson is in line to make his Ipswich debut against his former club.

The 31-year-old has joined the Tractor Boys on loan from Middlesbrough until the end of the season and is set for a return to the club where it all began for him in 2001.

Town captain Carlos Edwards limped out of Saturday's 2-0 win over Reading with a groin problem but is fit to travel to West Yorkshire with the rest of the squad.

Manager Mick McCarthy has no fresh injury concerns after his play-off chasers ended a run of three successive defeats.
