The YEP report that the young centre-back is in line for an improved deal this summer and discussions between the Whites and his representatives are understood to have already taken place.
Lees only signed a new contract in September, committing himself to Leeds until 2015, but manager Neil Warnock has moved to enhance his terms again after the 21-year-old caught his eye towards the end of the recent Championship season.
Former boss Simon Grayson gave Lees his United debut in August and the defender went on to play 45 times, featuring in all but four of Leeds’ Championship matches.
The club struggled to close out their campaign, finishing 14th after five defeats from their last seven fixtures, but Warnock praised Lees’ performances, saying: “Tom’s been the one bright spark at the back.
“He’s got a lot to learn and he made individuals errors but he’s improved his all-round game and he was almost the first name on my teamsheet. I can’t give him a bigger compliment than that.”
Lees has played predominantly as a centre-back for United but Warnock fielded him at right-back sporadically and will look to exploit his versatility again next term.
Warnock, who landed Jason Pearce from Portsmouth last week, said: “There’ll be a lot of competition for places. I’m looking to sign a few defenders.
“He can play at right-back and, as much as he might not like that, you need utility players.”
