Leeds drop Beckford contract hint

United's leading scorer is out of contract in the summer and available on a free transfer to interested parties.

Newcastle and Everton have both been linked with the 26-year-old, although Leeds have yet to accept a deal for his services.

Grayson accepts is it a challenge to compete with Premier League clubs in terms of contracts, but hints they still have a chance of keeping him on.

He believes the Elland Road club will be able to offer something more enticing to Beckford should Leeds win promotion.

Beckford, who scored Leeds' FA Cup winner at Manchester United earlier this month, is expected to lead the line against Spurs at White Hart Lane on Saturday evening.

"It's difficult for us to compete with Premier League clubs," Grayson told the Daily Express.

"If we get promoted at the end of the season there's every chance we might make him a new offer.

"But while Jermaine is here we expect him to be focused and keep doing what he has been doing."
