Leeds close to academy appointment

Leeds are hoping to appoint someone "young with fire in their belly" as the club's new academy manager next month. Neil Thompson and his assistant Daral Pugh departed Thorp Arch in October and technical director Gwyn Williams has since been in temporary charge. Chairman Ken Bates said: "We've had over 60 applications for the job. Long-term that is the most important job after the manager. "The numbers have been whittled down and Simon (Grayson), Gwyn and Shaun (Harvey) will be sitting down over the next few weeks to discuss the matter. "Hopefully we'll make an appointment sometime in February. We want the right person, with the right experience and who is young enough and has enough fire in his belly."
