Backlash By Disabled United Fans

Disabled Leeds United season ticket holders have been told they may have to come up with extra cash to watch their team this season. Angry fans have already started an internet protest against the club "penalising" its disabled followers. The backlash was sparked by the club's decision to change the requirements for disabled season ticket holders who have carers accompany them to matches. Fans, many of whom have already renewed their tickets for this season, say they have been left with just days to sort out tickets before the new season starts on Saturday. They have started a Facebook group called Leeds United Fans Against Penalising Disabled Supporters in protest at the changes. In previous years, fans holding a blue disabled badge would qualify for a disabled season ticket at a reduced price and a carer's ticket. But under the new rules, qualification for disabled tickets will be based on the individual's eligibility for the different levels of Disability Living Allowance (DLA). It could mean carers having to pay for their own ticket. Stuart Ramm, of the Leeds United Disabled Organisation (LUDO), criticised the timing of the changes, but said those who had abused the previous system were to blame for the changes.
