Reja pushes for Marchetti Italy recall

Lazio coach Edy Reja says Italy counterpart Cesare Prandelli should recall goalkeeper Federico Marchetti to the national set-up.

Marchetti has not played for Italy since appearing in all three Azzurri World Cup matches in South Africa 18 months ago.

After that, though, he was frozen out at Cagliari over a contract dispute and spent a year without playing.

But a summer move to Lazio has seen him return to first-team Serie A football and Marchetti was undoubtedly man-of-the-match in Lazio's 0-0 draw at Napoli on Saturday night.

"I hope Prandelli will take Marchetti into consideration, it's not the first time he's played at that level," said Reja.

Marchetti made two flying one-handed saves to deny Napoli's Ezequiel Lavezzi and the Argentine forward was chief among those singing the goalkeeper's praises.

"Marchetti made some incredible saves," he said.

Napoli coach Walter Mazzarri felt the goalkeeper was the reason his side failed to turn their domination into victory.

"Marchetti made the difference, he got the better of us but that's football," he said.

The 28-year-old has played eight times for Italy -- he took over as number one at the World Cup when he came on at half time for the injured Gianluigi Buffon against Paraguay and then started against New Zealand and Slovakia.

His rise through the ranks had been meteoric ahead of his trip to South Africa as at that point he only had two years of Serie A experience with Cagliari.
