Lazio appoint Ballardini

Lazio have named Davide Ballardini as their new manager on a two-year contract.

The 46-year-old former Palermo coach succeeds Delio Rossi who left Lazio earlier this month after spending four years in charge of the side from the capital.

President Claudio Lotito said: "I believe I have made the right choice in appointing Ballardini. He and his coaching staff have a culture of work and dedication.

"They know the importance of being a part of this club and what this club represents in Italy.

"In the past four years we have achieved important aims and Ballardini and his staff will have to improve on these results."

Ballardini said of his appointment: "It's going to be an exciting adventure. Lazio have great potential and the players will have to prove it on a daily basis.

"Lazio must have one clear aim, to always be competitive. It's a duty in all of the tournaments it will compete in.

"To say how Lazio will play under me would not be fair right now but I do have clear ideas of how to bring out the best in the players."
