Las Palmas have signed goalkeeper Javi Varas on a two-year contract, the newly-promoted Primera Division club have announced.

Varas has joined the team from the Canary Islands as a free agent after his contract with Real Valladolid expired last month.

A statement from the club read: "Javi Varas will play for UD Las Palmas for the next two seasons after both parties reached an agreement.

"The Spanish goalkeeper joins as a free agent from Real Valladolid.

"Varas is expected to arrive in Gran Canaria on Tuesday and will be officially unveiled once he passes a medical."

The 32-year-old played four seasons for his home club Sevilla before being sent out on loan to Celta Vigo in the 2012-13 campaign.

He left Sevilla last summer to move to Segunda Division side Valladolid on a one-year contract.

Las Palmas, coached by Paco Herrera, are back in the top flight after a 13-year absence.

Los Amarillos last played in the Primera Division in 2002, and joined Real Betis and Sporting Gijon in winning promotion to the top flight this past season.
