    Lee targets last 16

    08 Jun 2006 - 12:31:39

Lee Young-Pyo believes reaching the last 16 would represent a successful World Cup for South Korea.

There is pressure on the Korean team to perform in Germany after their extraordinary run to the semi-finals on home soil four years ago, but the Tottenham full-back does not believe the last four is a realistic target this time round.

"The last World Cup was unbelievably enjoyable for the national team and for our nation. That was a special case, I think," said the 29-year-old.

"This Korean team is much better than last time because many players now have experience of European football and there are so many good young guys coming through.

"But this World Cup is in Europe and it will be harder for us - I think if we get into the second round it will be a success for Korea.

"Our target has to be to get to the knockout stages. I'm very positive because we played in the semi-final of the last World Cup and that is very advantageous for us, it will help us."

South Korea begin their World Cup campaign against Togo on June 13 and will also face France and Switzerland in Group G.
