Low confirms Podolski place

Germany coach Joachim Low has declared that Koln striker Lukas Podolski will definitely be part of his World Cup squad.

Earlier in the week, Low insisted that he would only pick fit players who were in form for the summer tournament in South Africa.

Podolski has only scored one goal in 15 appearances for Koln this season, but Low has pledged to pick the 24-year-old hitman, who has already won 69 international caps.

Podolski was also a favourite with Low's predecessor Jurgen Klinsmann.

"There are no doubts at all about Podolski's status as a national team player," he declared. "His goalscoring record with us is noteworthy.

"He is cheeky and is not afraid. In the national team, he nearly always plays well.

"Even against top nations, he never shows any nerves and he performs excellently."
