Koln bring Schorch back home
22 Jul 2009 - 07:35:31
Koln have wrapped up a second signing in as many days, bringing defender Christopher Schorch back to Germany from Real Madrid.
The 20-year-old had failed to make a first-team impact at the Bernabeu, having started his career in his homeland with Hertha Berlin, and has now signed a four-year contract with Koln.
General manager Michael Meier told the club's official website: "We are delighted to have pulled off this transfer when there were other Bundesliga clubs interested.
"We tried to sign him two years ago, but lost out to Real Madrid back then.
"Christopher fulfills the profile of what we were looking for and strengthens the quality of our squad.
"It is intentionally a long-term deal with Christopher, since this transfer is also about his potential."
Koln had wrapped up the signing of Portugal international midfielder Maniche on Monday, with the 31-year-old penning a two-year contract to head to Germany from Atletico Madrid.
Coach Zvonimir Soldo commented: "We are happy to be able to count on Maniche.
"We have been watching him for some time and I am convinced he is a player that will fit well into our team."
