We had no spark, moans McGhee

Well struggled to get going in the lunchtime Scottish Premier League match.[LNB]The home side controlled the first half without threatening Graeme Smith and, although both sides had chances in the second half, McGhee felt it would have been unjust had substitute David Clarkson converted Motherwell's best opportunity in injury-time.[LNB]The visitors travelled to Ayrshire on Friday and stayed at a hotel in order to be ready for the early kick-off and McGhee was at a loss to explain their subdued display.[LNB]"We have cameras here and did everything possible to prepare right, travelling overnight with the early start, and there was just no spark," McGhee said.[LNB]"It was a very disappointing game, apart from the result. I would have much preferred if it had been a great game and we had played really well and lost, rather than it to have been as frustrating and poor as it was.[LNB]"We didn't create anything, there was no continuity to our play. Probably the most passes we put together was five or six. There was no quality, it was scrappy.[LNB]"I think 0-0 was the right result. I don't think we would have deserved it had Clarkson taken the chance."[LNB]Kilmarnock manager Jim Jefferies felt his side deserved credit for their input, although he admitted their final ball sometimes let them down in the first period.[LNB]Kevin Kyle and Manuel Pascali had good chances after the break and Jefferies claimed his side would have won had they had some luck.[LNB]"You can't fault Kilmarnock for trying to win the game," he said. "We played some terrific stuff and dominated the first half. Nothing has fallen for us.[LNB]"As we were pushing forward I was always worried they might break away. There were a couple of times we got caught but fortunately they didn't take advantage.[LNB]"It would have been a travesty if we had lost. We probably deserved three points."[LNB]Meanwhile, McGhee played down a first-half incident which saw him complain to a policeman after being the target of abuse from home fans behind his dugout.[LNB]"I wasn't upset, I was having a bit of a laugh," he said. "One or two of them were having a laugh and a couple of others were taking it a bit seriously.[LNB]"It was a bit of foul and abusive language that was a bit unnecessary, directed at me.[LNB]"Eventually I was trying to get Jim arrested, his language was worse than the guy behind me!"[LNB][LNB]
