Stranraer star fighting for his life

McInnes was attacked outside a hotel in an apparent row over a taxi.[LNB]The 20-year-old, who had been a Celtic youth player and was released by Kilmarnock in the summer, is understood to be in a critical condition after losing litres of blood in the attack.[LNB]He also suffered a punctured lung, his club said.[LNB]Strathclyde Police are treating the attack as an attempted murder.[LNB]The incident happened outside the Seamill Hydro Hotel in Ayrshire in the early hours of yesterday morning.[LNB]McInnes was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock along with his friend Anthony Boyle, who was also stabbed.[LNB]A statement on the Stranraer FC website said: "The thoughts and best wishes of everyone connected with the club are with Paul McInnes and his family and with his friend Anthony Boyle and his family after they were admitted to Crosshouse Hospital following a vicious assault on a Christmas night out with their pals.[LNB]"Both were knifed in an alleged bust up over a taxi outside the Seamill Hydro hotel in Ayrshire.[LNB]"Paul, who was stabbed twice, lost litres of blood and suffered a punctured lung in what the police are treating as attempted murder."[LNB]A Strathclyde Police spokeswoman said inquiries were continuing into the attack.[LNB]Boyle is understood to have been allowed home from hospital.[LNB]Detective Sergeant Bert Graystone, based at Saltcoats, said: "At the time the incident took place, a party night had just finished at the hotel and the car park would have been very busy.[LNB]"I would ask anyone who witnessed the attack, in particular drivers of taxis and mini-buses who were waiting to pick people up, to contact Saltcoats police office."[LNB]McInnes' former manager at Kilmarnock, Jim Jefferies, paid tribute to the player today.[LNB]He said: "I was very sorry to hear about this. I heard that he was in a serious condition.[LNB]"He was a good young lad, very skilful, who came up through the youth ranks at Kilmarnock, but we had to let him go in the summer because of cutbacks."[LNB][LNB]
