Rogne strike thwarts Killie

Celtic failed to move to the top of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League as they needed a late Thomas Rogne equaliser to claim a 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock at a freezing Parkhead. Victory would have put Neil Lennon's side top of the SPL on goal difference but the draw sees them go two points behind defending champions Rangers, who now also have a game in hand on the Hoops while Kilmarnock remain in fifth. The Parkhead side bombed forward from the start and Niall McGinn forced two saves from the visitors goalkeeper Cameron Bell in the opening half. However, in Kilmarnock's first real chance of the game, striker Conor Sammon brushed off the attention of the back-tracking Emilio Izaguirre to burst into the box and drive an angled shot past Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster for his 12th SPL goal of the season in the 54th minute. Celtic fought back and though Daryl Murphy twice went close to equalising, it was Rogne who got on the scoresheet after he headed in a deep free-kick from Ki Sung-yueng. The goal set up a storming finale but in the first minute of injury time, as the Ayrshire side broke, Sammon rounded Forster but his attempt to squeeze the ball in from a tight angle was thwarted by Daniel Majstorovic.
