Paatelainen: We deserved a point

Kilmarnock boss Mixu Paatelainen felt his side deserved a point after Nick Blackman`s strike gave Motherwell a 1-0 victory. The on-loan Blackburn striker, making his first start for the Fir Park club, turned home a Chris Humphrey cross from close range nine minutes before the interval.

Manuel Pascali was denied a last-minute equaliser by an excellent Darren Randolph save, leaving Kilmarnock still searching for their first points of the campaign.

Paatelainen, who was taking charge of his first home game since his summer appointment, said: "I felt Motherwell got out of jail and that we dominated from start to finish. Manu's header was absolutely going in, but it was good defending by Motherwell and they got the clean sheet and won the match. "We passed the ball well, played some fantastic football and created chances, but we aren't scoring goals.

The most important bit is missing, and also we fell asleep at the goal - we have a lot of players who sometimes have a tendency to fall asleep and we need to improve. "However, I'm so pleased with the way we played, as we dominated against a very good team and I'm encouraged that we'll go forward from here and hopefully we'll score enough goals to win matches."
