Paatelainen praises players over penalty confusion

Kilmarnock manager Mixu Paatelainen praised his players for retaining their composure following Willie Collum's decision to reverse a penalty award for his side during their 3-1 win over Hibernian. With Hibs leading the Co-operative Insurance Cup third-round tie through an early goal from Jonathan Grounds, Collum pointed to the spot after Sol Bamba had brought down Conor Sammon in the 24th minute. But the referee changed his decision to a corner after consulting with fourth official Bobby Madden. However, Jamie Hamill netted on the rebound five minutes later and Killie survived some pressure after the break before Hamill, from the spot, and David Mendes Da Silva netted within three second-half minutes. Paatelainen said: "The fourth official made a call there. It's a new thing they do to make decisions right. Hopefully it's the right decision, I haven't seen it on TV yet. I'm perfectly calm no because we won. God help me if it was the other way round." However, Paatelainen added: "I felt the referee was in a better position. He didn't hesitate, he pointed to the spot straight away. I can't praise the boys' character enough. It's a big blow, first being given a penalty and a chance to equalise, and then it's a corner kick. Nobody's heads went down and we went on to win the game."
