Kilmarnock relishing the unknown against St Mirren

Kilmarnock manager Mixu Paatelainen is looking forward to the "adventure" of playing new-look St Mirren when the Paisley side visit Rugby Park.

Danny Lennon landed his first managerial post in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League when he moved from Cowdenbeath to the Paisley club in the summer. He quickly returned to his former club to recruit four players as he revamped the Saints squad but Paatelainen, who could give a debut to new signing Alexei Eremenko, welcomes the unfamiliarity about the Buddies.

The former Hibernian boss said: "Having a new manager means they have new ideas as how to play. They have started the season very well. They have had a very tough opening three matches but they have managed to pick up four points."

He added: "We have had them scouted and I have managed to see them a couple of matches. I don't think there will be too many surprises but it is always a new adventure when you play a new team with a new manager. I think it will be a very even game.

"Some people might say St Mirren is an easier game than against Celtic or Rangers but it's not, it's a very difficult match for us and we have to be on our toes to take anything from it.

"But it's three points at stake and that's what we want to do, accumulate as many goals as possible."

Kilmarnock picked up their first three points of the season in their last outing against Aberdeen at Pittodrie and Paatelainen is confident his side can go from strength to strength.

"We played fantastically well at Aberdeen," he said. "To go up there to a tough venue against a team who were top of the table, and have most of the possession and more shots on and off target than them, was very pleasing and encouraging.

"But so far our boys have done fantastically well, in terms of passing the ball and defending.

"If we keep that going I am quietly confident we will have a great result on Saturday. But it has to happen on Saturday, there is no point in talking about it now."
