Killie show Jefferies the door
12 Jan 2010 - 07:24:33
Jim Jefferies has been sacked by Kilmarnock to bring to an end the reign of the Scottish Premier League's longest serving manager.
Jefferies' eight-year spell at Rugby Park had been in doubt following allegations which emerged last week that chairman Michael Johnston had asked club captain Kevin Kyle's opinion on team tactics.
Kyle made the claim in a newspaper and Johnston was forced to deny the claims.
However, the Falkirk, Hearts and Bradford City boss has now left the SPL strugglers.
"An agreement has been reached among Kilmarnock Football Club, team manager Jim Jefferies and assistant team manager Billy Brown, which will allow Messrs Jefferies and Brown to leave the employment of the club with immediate effect. The agreement was reached by mutual consent," read a club statement.
"Everyone at Kilmarnock Football Club wishes to thank Jim and Billy for their eight years of service to the club, a period which witnessed several top-six SPL finishes and the League Cup final in 2007.
"The club will now seek a new manager with a view to restoring its position in the top six of the SPL and challenging for this year's Scottish Cup."
