Kilmarnock captain Kevin Kyle has been sanctioned by the club following his public disagreement with chairman Michael Johnston.

Kyle accused Johnston of going behind former manager Jim Jefferies' back to ask him about team tactics in several newspaper articles.

"The chairman called me and, more or less, asked if I'd mind discreetly talking about the manager and his tactics," said the Scotland striker earlier in the month.

"I just said, 'No, wait a minute, I'm just a player. That's got nothing to do with me'.

"I felt awkward. You don't try and go behind people's backs - that's the worst thing you can do in football."

Jimmy Calderwood has since replaced Jefferies in the Rugby Park hot-seat and Kyle has now been sanctioned.

A club statement read: "The disciplinary proceedings initiated by the club in relation to Kevin Kyle's comments to the Daily Record newspaper, which were printed on 1st January 2010, and to the Sun newspaper, which were printed on 8th January 2010, have been concluded.

"The club has imposed a disciplinary sanction, the nature of which will remain confidential. The matter is now closed."
