Jimmy wants improvement on the road
Killie boss Jimmy Calderwood has challenged his players to show more belief on the road as they look to improve their away record at Hamilton.[LNB] Only Rangers have conceded less goals in away games in the SPL season than Kilmarnock, who have let in just 19.[LNB]But the Ayrshire side have only scored four times away from Rugby Park this season to leave them one point off the bottom.[LNB]Calderwood, who will again be without the suspended Kevin Kyle, said: "We are letting ourselves down.[LNB]"I get the feeling they think they can beat anyone at Rugby Park and then when they go away, seemingly they have been beaten seven times 1-0. That says enough.[LNB]"If we drew five of those games 0-0 or 1-1 then you could be looking forward to your holiday at this moment in time.[LNB]"It says a lot, we've only scored four goals away from home. Obviously, in our time, it's not as if we have sent them out to defend."[LNB]Calderwood cited a home match against Scottish Cup finalists Dundee United as an example of the spirit and belief his side need in away matches.[LNB]"Dundee United are having an absolutely magnificent season," he said.[LNB]"We were getting beat 3-1 at Rugby Park and within 20 minutes we came back to (lead) 4-3. Okay, they came back and it was 4-4, but we have proved we can do it against one of the best - albeit in Kilmarnock.[LNB]"So it's just a matter of taking your chances when they come along, and maybe we have not had the luck to win the away games."[LNB]Killie were beaten 2-1 at home to Hamilton last month and Calderwood does not expect any let-up in their commitment.[LNB]"They have done great, they have been on a wonderful run," the former Aberdeen manager said.[LNB]"Probably along with St Johnstone, they are the team that, going into the bottom six, can just go and enjoy themselves.[LNB]"But the way the lads are at Hamilton, they seem to be battling in every game, they have a point to prove all the time. So there is no way they will take their foot off the pedal."[LNB]While everyone at Kilmarnock is focused on beating the drop, defender Steven Old also has one eye on the World Cup.[LNB]But Old, who has 20 caps for New Zealand, has not played since February and hopes his lack of action does not hinder his chances of making his country's squad.[LNB]"It could hinder my chances a little bit but the season is finished over there now," the 24-year-old said.[LNB]"So I've got the benefit of training in a professional environment over here and possibly playing as well.[LNB]"It's early May the final 23 is announced. I'm on the cusp of that. The last game against Mexico a month ago I was playing, so who knows?"[LNB]Meanwhile, Calderwood has received some promising news over Frazer Wright's hamstring injury.[LNB]"He is not fit yet but he could be fit for next week, which is great news because I thought he was finished for the season," Calderwood said. "That says a lot about the lad."
