Jefferies wants response from Killie

There was a lot of publicity around the possibility of Killie opening up a seven-point gap over bottom side Falkirk a fortnight ago when they clashed at Rugby Park, but it was Eddie May's side who won 2-1 to draw their hosts into the relegation battle.[LNB]The Ayrshire club, on 14 points, travel to St Mirren Park behind the Buddies only on goal difference and two points above the Bairns.[LNB]Victory against Saints could take Kilmarnock two places up the table and five clear of Falkirk if the bottom side lose to St Johnstone.[LNB]However, Jefferies says he is concentrating solely on the win and not its implications.[LNB]"We have had two or three chances this season to push away from the danger area and haven't done it," he said.[LNB]"So it's not about what we could do, we have to go out and do it.[LNB]"We had a great response to the home defeat by Falkirk by getting a draw against Dundee United last week so let's hope we can go one better against St Mirren. It is a big, big game for us.[LNB]"It is a very tight league and, on the day, victory usually goes to the team who gets a wee break or who wants it more.[LNB]"A few weeks ago St Mirren were on a terrific run and they were looking at the top half of the table.[LNB]"Hearts are an even better example of how tight the league is. They were worried about going bottom of the table a few games ago and now, with three wins, they are in fifth position.[LNB]"But St Mirren are always a difficult team to play against so it won't be easy."[LNB]Kilmarnock's match against Celtic was called off on Wednesday night due to the snow and ice around Rugby Park, a decision that did not go down well with Celtic.[LNB]Chief executive Peter Lawwell felt Kilmarnock could have done more to help the game go ahead but Jefferies insists the decision was out of their hands.[LNB]"I think there was a bit of frustration from Celtic," he said. "There is no SPL rule that says we are responsible.[LNB]"We took advice from the police and it was all about safety of the fans.[LNB]"The area around Rugby Park was like a skating rink and I had trouble getting across the car park to my car.[LNB]"There is not a lot you can do about the weather when it is as bad as that."[LNB][LNB] St Mirren v Kilmarnock.
