Kilmarnock boss Jim Jefferies has admitted he did not realise Garry Hay would be suspended for this weekend's SPL clash with Rangers.
Killie were already without banned striker Colin Nish for the game, but Jefferies had been looking forward to restoring Hay to his starting line-up after the defender recovered from a hamstring injury.
"We were hoping Garry would be fit for the Rangers game but we've had notification that he starts a two-game ban on the Saturday," Jefferies told the Daily Record.
"I didn't realise he was going to be suspended. He was sent off against Motherwell and the points you get for a dismissal can range from seven to 12.
"The sending-off must have been a 12-pointer because he's only had three bookings so far this season.
"That's taken him over the points threshold and although he's served a one match ban for the sending-off it has a roll-on effect. So he starts a two-match ban this weekend."
