    Ford's response pleases boss

    23 Jan 2009 - 11:29:03

Kilmarnock manager Jim Jefferies praised Simon Ford after his side reached the fifth round of the Scottish Cup by beating local rivals Ayr United 3-1 at Rugby Park.

Ford's mistake allowed the Honestmen to take a shock lead in the fourth round replay, but he responded by scoring twice in the second half.

Mehdi Taouil also netted for Killie who sealed their place in the fifth round and a tie with Inverness Caledonian Thistle despite David Fernandez's red card.

After the game Jefferies said: "After losing a very soft goal, Simon Ford showed great character to come back and get the first one and the third one.

"Even when we went down to ten men, we kept going at them. Everybody played their part in getting through.

"It's a great result for us. I thought we outclassed them in all departments."
