Ford happy with Killie stay
04 Feb 2009 - 11:39:26
Kilmarnock defender Simon Ford is happy to have remained with the club and regained a regular starting spot after a catalogue of injury problems.
The 27-year-old former Grimsby Town stopper has impressed in recent weeks for Killie, having admitted that he had pondered leaving Rugby Park last season to return to England.
He told the Daily Record: "I thought of leaving. I was 26 and felt I wanted to play. If I could go elsewhere and play, I would.
"There was a time I was sitting in the stands and I wasn't even playing reserve football. It was a case of training all week in the lead-up to nothing and I wasn't happy.
"Last summer I worked hard and got a fresh start and I'm glad because I didn't really want to leave. Everyone just wants to play football and I wanted a fair chance."
Ford has made 123 appearances for Killie to date, scoring six goals for the SPL outfit.
