Danny stunned by Killie struggles

The Australian had harboured hopes of finishing in the top half of the Scottish Premier League and even pushing for a European spot. Instead, the Rugby Park outfit have slumped to ninth in the table and just five points ahead of bottom side Falkirk. "I'm very surprised if I'm being honest," said Invincibile. "At the beginning of the season we were flying. We were playing some good football, winning games, top of the table. "The squad that we've got is a lot stronger, the players who have come in have done extremely well. They have a lot of talent and we've got strength in depth. "I thought we were going to have a great season, maybe top six and going for Europe. That has blown up in our faces. We've still got the belief that we can get out of it and that we can play good football. You have to be positive to survive and experience, as well as enthusiasm, is what is going to get us through." Inverness had been strongly tipped for the drop but their resurgence since the arrival of Terry Butcher at the helm continued with a 2-1 win over Kilmarnock at the weekend. Killie are now just a single point ahead of the Highlanders and Invincibile admitted: "It leaves us in a dogfight at the bottom of the table. We know it and everyone else knows it. "It's a time where we have to pull our sleeves up and stick together as a team and work and fight and scrap for every point and goal that we can. "It was a massive game at the weekend and we let ourselves down. The goals we let in were sloppy and we didn't take our chances. "We know exactly where we are and we know where we have to be and the next couple of games are vital for us." Kilmarnock finished 11th last season - saved from relegation by crisis club Gretna - and Invincibile hopes past experience will work in the Ayrshire club's favour this time around. He said: "I've been through a couple of seasons down south where I was at the wrong end of the table so I know exactly how it is and I think a lot of other boys will as well. "Last season was pretty much the same. Hopefully we can take note from that and put it into practice and get ourselves back up the table." Invincibile recently penned a new deal and vowed not to jump ship if Killie do find themselves in the First Division next season. However, that is a scenario the midfielder is unwilling to even consider. He said: "I signed an extension for a two-year deal at Christmas so, as far as I'm concerned, I'm a Kilmarnock player. "I'm at the club until my contract expires. But I don't want to think like that, I don't want to think that we are going to go down. "For a club like Kilmarnock, it would be financially devastating and we can't let that happen."
