Calderwood: Killie players so tired

Calderwood presided over the 3-0 Scottish Premier League defeat by to Motherwell less than 48 hours after being unveiled as Jim Jefferies' successor.[LNB]Having had no time to stamp his authority on his new side, Calderwood faces the same problem with their rearranged fourth-round cup tie.[LNB]"In one way, I'm glad to get a game gain," the former Aberdeen and Dunfermline boss said.[LNB]"But you cannot do anything tactical-wise, organisation-wise.[LNB]"There are a lot of tired legs. It was a heavy, heavy pitch and when you're down like that, it makes it a lot harder.[LNB]"Result-wise, it would be great to have the Scottish Cup."[LNB]The match is a meeting of the SPL's bottom two teams, but there is no doubt which of the sides are in better form.[LNB]"Falkirk have had a wonderful result at Celtic Park, so that's not going to make it any easier," Calderwood said of the Bairns' 1-1 draw on Saturday.[LNB]"But we cannot feel sorry for ourselves; we've just got to get on with it."[LNB]Calderwood's cause has not been helped by an injury to midfielder Craig Bryson, who limped off against Well.[LNB]"If he's not playing, it's be a massive loss because I thought he did really, really well," the Killie boss said.[LNB]"He was the one player who had the quality and the energy.[LNB]"At the end, we looked very, very tired to be honest."[LNB]Killie went in level at half-time after an even opening 45 minutes but they found Motherwell too hot to handle after the break as Jim O'Brien struck twice for the visitors before Lukas Jutkiewicz rubber stamped the result.[LNB]Calderwood said at his unveiling on Thursday he was confident his side - who have now won just one of their last 10 games - had the quality to stay in the SPL.[LNB]Even if Saturday's result has changed his mind, he will struggle to recruit reinforcements on a non-existent budget.[LNB]"I don't know if we'll be able to have people on loan without having to get anybody out," he said.[LNB]"That's what they told us before we came in."[LNB]Full-back Garry Hay, who was one of six players recalled by Calderwood, agreed his new boss had not had enough time to make an impact.[LNB]"It's tough for the manager to come in the day before the game and get his ideas across," he said.[LNB]Monday night's match could have a psychological bearing on the battle for survival, with Falkirk now just a point behind Killie in the SPL with a game in hand.[LNB]Hay added: "The cup's a different thing at least.[LNB]"Every game's massive for us because of the position we're in.[LNB]"We'll enjoy the cup occasion on Monday night and look to try to put a smile back on everyone's faces."[LNB][LNB] Kilmarnock 11/10, Draw 12/5, Falkirk 12/5
