Calderwood happy with Killie response

Kilmarnock boss Jimmy Calderwood revealed he had to give his players a half-time "rollicking" to inspire them to beat Aberdeen.[LNB] Killie looked set for their 11th defeat in 12 matches when Dons skipper Mark Kerr broke the deadlock but second half goals from Liam Kelly and Kevin Kyle gave the Ayrshire side a vital win in the battle to beat the drop in the Scottish Premier League.[LNB]The win means Kilmarnock move two points clear of Falkirk who visit Rugby Park in Saturday's season finale.[LNB]Calderwood said: "We came up to win the game but we were so poor on the ball in the first half. Stuart Duff and Derek Young caused us massive problems and we were lucky to go in only one goal behind at half-time.[LNB]"I have got a sore throat after giving the players a good old fashioned rollicking at half-time. We made a change and adjusted the shape which worked well for us.[LNB]"In the second half we rolled our sleeves up and had four great chances before we scored. When their keeper made a wonderful save and we hit the post I started to think it wasn't going to be our day but the boys kept going and I thought they thoroughly deserved their victory."[LNB]Calderwood, a former Aberdeen manager, said beating his old club made the victory even sweeter.[LNB]He added: "I had a wonderful time here and that chapter of my career is now closed. It is nice to see so many familiar faces again and although they are Aberdeen supporters they are genuinely pleased for you."[LNB]Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee slammed his side for their "diabolical" defending as they endured their second successive home defeat.[LNB]He said: "The game was there for us to win at half-time. We were very comfortable and the attitude shown by the players was so much better than it had been against Hamilton.[LNB]"Kilmarnock changed their shape but that didn't change a lot in the game it only made it scrappier. We then lost two diabolical goals, both of which came down the same side.[LNB]"They were shocking goals to lose in a game where they were otherwise limited to very few chances."[LNB]Aberdeen travel to St Mirren on Saturday but McGhee admitted he could not wait for the Dons' disappointing season to end.[LNB]He added: "I have asked the players to take the same attitude into the St Mirren game and see if we can win that one and then the season will be over."
