Caretaker boss Brown won the battle of the new men in charge at Rugby Park as his side romped to a 3-0 win over Jimmy Calderwood's Killie.[LNB]Former Scotland manager Brown answered an SOS to take charge of the Steelmen on an interim basis following Jim Gannon's sacking last month.[LNB]This was his first match in full control of team affairs and he immediately halted a run of five successive defeats with the club's first victory since October.[LNB]"We're not looking to hold anyone to ransom," Brown said.[LNB]"If you're genuinely wanted by the club officials and the players and the fans, it would be hard to say no."[LNB]He added: "The chairman is still cruising his yacht - or somebody's yacht in New Zealand.[LNB]"I believe he's due back next week.[LNB]"We've been told to operate as though we were in the management role.[LNB]"We're not begging for a contract or anything.[LNB]"If they offer us one, we're pleased. If they don't, we can understand.[LNB]"He'll have had 100 applications, I'm sure."[LNB]Brown was thrilled with the "exceptional" result, which he admitted he did not see coming after a scoreless first half.[LNB]But a Jim O'Brien double - his first goals since April - and a late third from Lukas Jutkiewicz saw Motherwell cruise home.[LNB]"I actually thought at half-time, 'This is destined to be a draw'," Brown said.[LNB]"It was an even game, to be honest, and we were very fortunate that we got the opening goal."[LNB]Brown singled out Keith Lasley for praise, the midfielder having fallen out of favour under former boss Jim Gannon.[LNB]"He was in depression," Brown said.[LNB]"In the middle of that park, he was the dominant personality there."[LNB]Brown also revealed he was confident of holding onto on-loan youngsters John Ruddy and Jutkiewicz, providing parent club Everton do not suffer an injuries in the goalkeeping and forward areas.[LNB]He added: "We're doing it a month at a time at the moment."[LNB]O'Brien was delighted to triple his goal tally for the club, saying: "It's really nice to get a double."[LNB]Calderwood, who was appointed boss at second-bottom Killie until the end of the season on Thursday, refused to be too harsh on his players so soon into his reign.[LNB]The former Aberdeen and Dunfermline manager said: "I've been in many press conferences when we've drawn games and I would be a lot harsher than I am at the moment.[LNB]"They don't need me bawling and shouting after they've lost a game. I think I normally would at this moment in time.[LNB]"If there's a second time or third time, it might be different."[LNB]He added: "Obviously that's a game where we gave points away again.[LNB]"I don't want to take anything away from Craigy's team; they thoroughly deserved it.[LNB]"We sat far too deep first half I thought.[LNB]"You can see there's a lack of confidence.[LNB]"It was very vital the first goal, the position we find ourselves in.[LNB]"They got it and they took massive confidence from that. We lost a lot of confidence.[LNB]"In the end, they look like they've won comfortably."[LNB]Calderwood admitted two days had not been enough time to prepare his side, who have had to train indoors because of the big freeze.[LNB]He said: "It's very difficult when you've just come in the day before and you're only in the wonderful facility at Toryglen because you can't really do too much tactical-wise - well, virtually nothing."[LNB][LNB][LNB]
