Brown: Combe could have walked

Buddies boss Gus MacPherson claimed Alan Combe should not have been on the park to save Jim Hamilton's penalty after his tackle on Craig Dargo during the clash at the new St Mirren Park ground.[LNB]It was a verdict Brown found difficult to argue against.[LNB]"There's no doubt that most times the ref does give red cards in these situations," he said. "It was a reckless challenge and an obvious penalty.[LNB]"We've had players sent off for nothing in the past. Maybe we escaped that one."[LNB]Brown, who was deputising as Killie boss Jim Jefferies recovers from minor surgery, was excited by a goal-scoring debut for Kevin Kyle.[LNB]The 27-year-old, who joined Killie from Coventry on Thursday, headed home Garry Hay's cross in the 29th minute and forced two good saves from Mark Howard before the interval.[LNB]"He's a big physical presence," Brown said. "If we can get the right type of ball in the box, he is going to be a handful.[LNB]"Apart from that, his general game was good, not just his aerial ability. I think he will be an asset to us. Bear in mind he is only 27, he has got a lot in front of him.[LNB]"He's got a will to do well up here. He wanted to come up here and I think he'll do very well. He's still very ambitious."[LNB]Brown added: "I'm pleased with a point. It was difficult day to come here.[LNB]"Overall, I don't think we can complain. I don't think we played particularly well, I think we can pass the ball better. But that's another away point."[LNB]MacPherson admitted he feared for his side after Hamilton's penalty miss, saying: "You don't get a better opportunity than a penalty and when we don't take it, you can see the heads go down for a little spell after that." [LNB]But he insisted his side merited their late leveller through substitute Dennis Wyness. [LNB]"I would've been disappointed if we hadn't taken anything from the game," he said. [LNB]"For long periods, we were in control, created lots of good opportunities and didn't take them. [LNB]"We were pushing me forward, we were taking chances, and thankfully we got that equaliser."[LNB][LNB]
