Accies not getting carried away

Hamilton's third consecutive SPL victory - and fourth clean sheet on the trot - lifted them nine points above bottom side Inverness.[LNB]They also moved level on points with Kilmarnock and only four off sixth-placed Hibernian.[LNB]While the Accies fans at Rugby Park felt justified in singing 'We are staying up', and probably started dreaming about a top-six push, Mensing is determined not to get carried away prematurely.[LNB]"I think we just have to worry about ourselves, keep on doing the things that we do and concentrate on the games as they come," the former St Johnstone and Motherwell player said.[LNB]"We're not taking anything for granted. We are nine points away from the bottom but there is still a long way to go. We are in a decent position but we need to keep on working hard."[LNB]Manager Billy Reid, who saw his bid to sign former Scunthorpe defender Izzy Iriekpen fall through on Saturday, has altered his tactics to make Accies harder to beat.[LNB]And Mensing believes they can keep their winning run going.[LNB]"The confidence is sky high," Mensing added. "We've looked a lot more solid as a team. Everyone is digging in for each other and the results have shown that."[LNB]Mensing claimed the only goal of the game as Accies forced home a 46th-minute corner, although referee Craig Thomson credited it to Richard Offiong.[LNB]"Richard had the header and I tried to get out the way but it hit my leg and went in, so I'm claiming it," Mensing said.[LNB]Thomson rightly awarded the goal despite Garry Hay knocking the ball away.[LNB]"I think it was just over the line," Hay said. "But it definitely wasn't a corner. I'm 100% sure about that, so that was a wee bit annoying, but we should still have dealt with the corner."[LNB]Sunday's defeat was Killie's seventh in eight SPL games at Rugby Park and came three days after they thought they had turned around their home form by beating Ayr in the Homecoming Scottish Cup.[LNB]Manager Jim Jefferies felt some of his players were heavy-legged following the derby clash but Hay was in no mood for excuses.[LNB]"We can't use that as an excuse," the full-back said. "We should be fit enough to cope with another game. We just never played.[LNB]"We never got the ball down and passed it. Hamilton battled really hard and were that wee bit better than us on the day.[LNB]"We're really annoyed at ourselves. It was a good chance to pick up three points and look to get back into the top-six area.[LNB]"Instead, we have allowed Hamilton to catch us on the same points and be dragged down a bit."[LNB][LNB]
