Kettering Town's new striker Neil Tolson impressed manager Carl Shutt with his debut performance in the 2-1 defeat by Woking on Saturday.
The former Leigh RMI man now faces a three-match ban after being sent off for dissent on his final appearance for the Lancashire club, but despite this Shutt is pleased that he managed to clinch his signature.
"I thought Neil had a very encouraging debut," Shutt told the Northants Evening Telegraph.
"He held the ball up well, showed some decent link-up play and did a reasonable job in the air flicking on headers.
"Obviously it was a bit strange for him coming into the side without really knowing his team-mates. But he settled in quite quickly.
"With a bit of luck he might even have celebrated his debut by scoring a late equaliser. But, unfortunately, someone else got a little nick on the cross and he couldn't get a clean strike."
Tolson's place will be taken by Gez Murphy when the Poppies travel to Altrincham for their FA Trophy third round replay on Wednesday.
