Poppies relegated after latest loss

A Steven Cowe brace helped to seal Kettering Town's relegation from the Nationwide Conference as Forest Green won 3-2 at Rockingham Road.

With just four games of the season left the Poppies are still 13 points away from safety as they make an immediate exit from the Conference.

Cowe gave the visitors the lead in the 19th minute when he headed Martin Foster's cross past William Gourley.

However, Craig Norman equalised for Carl Shutt's side seven minutes before half time after Darren Jones had brought down the Kettering defender.

Cowe restored Forest Green's lead in the 49th minute with a 20-yard drive after Alex Meechan had created the chance.

Meechan scored the third goal on the hour from the penalty spot after Lee Clarke had fouled Jones.

Niall Inman scored a last-gasp consolation goal for Kettering but it was too little too late as the Poppies bade farewell to the Conference.
