Zebina claims racist assault
30 Mar 2010 - 07:53:34
Juventus defender Jonathan Zebina has claimed the slap he received ahead of their Serie A clash against Atalanta on Sunday was an act of racism.
The Frenchman was hit on the back of the head as he boarded the coach to the Stadio Olimpico.
A group of fans were demonstrating outside the team hotel in Turin following the poor recent run of results and Zebina thinks the behaviour was out of order.
He said: "It is a racist act. I believe one has the right to criticise the team. We, players, are fortunate.
"We have an important responsibility considering the social climate in which we live, where people are losing their jobs.
"Hence, those that pay for a ticket to watch a game can protest as long as it is done with civility.
"I don't think Italy is racist, but I am saddened that the image of this country is stained by incidents like this one."
