An Italian great deemed surplus to requirements at the San Siro. Pirlo moved to rivals Juventus, deemed as a free agent.

Upon his first season with Juventus, the Italian side won the Serie A title, unbeaten for the whole season, as well as continuing to the 12/13 season.

EURO 2012 saw a good year for Pirlo end greatly. He won three man of the match awards, as well as assisting two and scoring one. He will be remembered from this tournament for his audacious chip in the penalty shootout against England. Known as a Panenka, Pirlo waited for Hart to move - before chipping it gently into the back of the net. Italy then went on to win the shootout.

Italy were however beaten by reinging World & European champions Spain in the final.

Pirlo equalled amonst Andres Iniesta for man of the match awards at the tournament, and was also selected to be part of the team of the tournament.
