Lippi blast for beaten Italy

Coach Marcello Lippi has accused a stunned Italy of lacking aggression after the Azzurri suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Egypt at the Confederations Cup.

The wounded world champions must now take at least a point from their final group match against Brazil if they are to reach the knockout stages of the competition in South Africa.

"In the first 20 to 25 minutes we played quite well and we caused some chaos in the Egyptian defence, but we were not aggressive enough and didn't take the initiative," claimed Lippi.

"After Egypt scored, we stopped playing and towards the end of the first half we were pretty poor.

"We picked things up in the second half but their keeper was fantastic.

"We had some good chances though and I think we deserved to score at least once.

"This is a tough group. Egypt played a fantastic second half against Brazil and they had a great first half against us."
