Juventus drop Ferrara hint

Juventus general manager Jean-Claude Blanc has dropped a strong hint that Ciro Ferrara will be the club's coach next season should he guide them to Champions League qualification. Former defender turned youth coach Ferrara was handed the reins on an interim basis until the end of the season following the decision to sack Claudio Ranieri on Monday. Ranieri was axed after Sunday's 2-2 home draw with Atalanta left Juve clinging on to the last automatic Champions League place by just one point from Fiorentina. "Ferrara will be coach for these two (match) days which leave a heavy mark on next season," confirmed Blanc. "Direct qualification to the Champions League would leave us with more time to prepare for next season and therefore to prepare better. "Ciro's mission is at least for these two matches. Then we will see and evaluate all that happened this season as we do each year and take the decision. "Ciro Ferrara will definitely be considered for next year at the end of the season but we must consider everything and see what our technical expectations are." Meanwhile, Blanc also confirmed that Juve's moves to sign Brazilian midfielder Diego from Werder Bremen and the bid to re-sign veteran defender Fabio Cannavaro from Real Madrid remain in place despite the change of coach.
