Juventus given 2006 title boost

Juventus have been given a boost in their bid to have Inter Milan stripped of the 2006 Serie A title when the Italian Olympic Committee's (Coni) National Court of Arbitration for Sport (TNAS) declared itself competent to judge the case.

Juve are appealing the Italian Football Federation's (Figc) rejection of their bid to have the 2006 scudetto crown unassigned.

Juve won the title but were stripped of it and the previous title in 2005 for match-fixing, a penalty that also saw them relegated to Serie B.

The Turin giants, along with second-place finishers AC Milan, were docked points from the 2006 season leaving Inter as the winners by default.

But Juve want that ruling overturned and for the 2006 title to remain unassigned, as the 2005 one has been.

TNAS gave the Old Lady of Turin hope by accepting to rule on the case and refusing Figc and Inter's counter appeal that it isn't competent to rule.

However, TNAS declared itself unable to rule on another Juve claim for compensation.

It means that TNAS could overturn Figc's decision to award the 2006 title to Inter.

If both the 2005 and 2006 titles were left unassigned, in the future Juve could apply to have themselves reinstated as champions in those years.

Already they refuse to accept the loss of those two titles and list them amongst their offical honours.
