Juve admit defeat over Dzeko

Director general Beppe Marotta has confirmed that Juventus have given up hope of being able to prise Bosnia striker Edin Dzeko away from Wolfsburg this summer.

The highly-rated 24-year-old came close to joining AC Milan a year ago, but Dzeko's current club are in no mood to sell up and Juve have now ended their pursuit.

Marotta admitted: "For Dzeko it is almost over as Wolfsburg just don't want to sell.

"Dzeko has said on more than one occasion that he wants to wear our shirt, but what could have been considered as a dream for us is difficult to realise."

Wolfsburg director Frank Aehlig had earlier revealed that Juve had yet to make a formal bid for Dzeko.

He told Itasportpress.it: "There have been many things said and written for the past few months about Dzeko.

"Neither Juventus nor any other Italian club have ever made an official offer for the player. Only Manchester City have come forward with a concrete offer.

"Dzeko will remain with us because the season is about to begin and will not be going anywhere."
