The father of Juventus and Chile midfielder Arturo Vidal was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of drug trafficking, according to police here in Santiago.

Police caught Erasmo Vidal in the act of selling cocaine at his home in the city, along with his sister Susana.

Police seized 154 doses of the drug, and Arturo Vidal's father and aunt were both taken into custody.

The Juventus star is no longer believed to be close to his father, who split up with his mother while Arturo was still a child.

The 24-year-old Chilean international moved to Turin in the summer from Bayer Leverkusen and is one of his country's biggest footballing stars.

However, he was one of five players banned from the national team last month after turning up at training late and inebriated.
