Conte scoffs at favourites tag

Antonio Conte reacted sarcastically when asked whether or not his side are now favourites to claim a first Serie A crown since 2003.

The Old Lady of Turin lead AC Milan by a point with a game in hand after the champions lost 2-0 at Lazio in midweek while Juve's game at Parma was called off due to the weather.

It means Juve could potentially go four points clear and they have a much easier task this weekend in hosting Siena than Milan do with Napoli in town.

But Conte won't hear anything about his side being favourites.

"I thank the media because they're starting to talk about Juve as favourites which means finally this team is being given its dues," he said mischievously.

"But I have an technical and tactical archive of articles and interviews and every so often I look back at what was said before the season began.

"In August we were a disaster, we hadn't signed any top players and the coach was considered the Taleban of tactics.

"In six months from seventh place (last season) we're the new favourites, it's a miracle, and that's the gratification of an amazing job done."

Speaking seriously, Conte insisted his team cannot be seen as the top side in the land.

"Milan are still clearly favourites to win the title," said Conte.

"Now we have Siena and then Milan in the cup, things have changed since we played once a week, I can't live day to day any more.

"I'll have to manage the programme, keeping in mind the (physical) condition of the players."

Conte was in combative mood and hit out at the inadequate stadia in Italy that cannot cope with poor weather, leading to games being postponed not due to the state of the pitch but rather because the stands are considered too dangerous for fans.

"At Parma I hoped we would play, there were futile issues, there's always cold weather, we're not in Dubai here," he moaned.

"Unfortunately there aren't adequate stadiums to host football, abroad everyone plays whereas we have problems and now we have to play three matches in six days, so thanks for that.

"I hope in the future there will be a discussion on this subject."
