Buffon opts for surgery

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is unlikely to play again until February after enduring knee surgery.

The Italy international had arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee after Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Bari.

Buffon had been hoping to postpone the operation until the end of the year, but a statement from the club read: "The surgery lasted ten minutes and it was successful."

It is anticipated that Buffon will spend at least six weeks on the sidelines.
