Jamaican national team coach Theodore Whitmore, whose team has lost four straight games in qualifying for Brazil 2014, has resigned after a 2-0 loss to Honduras on Tuesday.
According to the Jamaican daily, The Observer, Whitmore and management had a meeting after the Honduras' loss and the coach was left with the choice to resign or be sacked.
With two draws and four defeats, Jamaica is in last place in the qualifying group in Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football region, and has almost no hope to qualify for the World Cup in Brazil.
Whitmore was the hero of Jamaica's 2-1 win over Japan during the 1998 World Cup in France, which remains the only victory of the Caribbean nation at a World Cup.
Under his direction, Jamaica beat the United States 2-1 in September in Kingston, and posted 0-0 draw in Mexico City in March.
