De Rossi hoping to end English hoodoo

Daniele De Rossi has never played against England before but he has sour memories of a number of unhappy meetings against English clubs in European competition.

"I've never been lucky against English teams and I've never played against England," moaned De Rossi. "And then there was that Roma-Liverpool (European Cup) final (in 1984) that as a Roman can never be marginalised in the story of Italy against England.

"But England are one of the five or six historic teams on an international level. It will be great to play them."

"I've seen little of them as they've always played after us on our night off," he said.

"But they have great players, (Gerrard) has always been my idol. They have young wingers and a coach who's worked in Italy. They're a strong team."
