The Iraqi Football Association will pay 400,000 euros ($528,600) in joint compensation to its former head coach and an assistant coach who were sacked in 2008, a member of the IFA said on Saturday.
FIFA "imposed a fine... of 400,000 euros as a compensation to Norwegian coach (Egil) Olsen" and an assistant coach, Kamil Zaghayir said.
Olsen was sacked suddenly because of Iraq's failure to beat China in their opening 2010 World Cup qualifier in February 2008.
He had signed a three-year $250,000 (about 189,000 euros) contract to coach Iraq the previous September.
"We will pay the compensation in order to not be affected by another FIFA decision, especially as we are approaching the qualifications for the 2014 Brazil World Cup," Zaghayir said.
