Trotter appeal rejected
08 Jan 2008 - 17:03:18
Young Ipswich Town midfielder Liam Trotter has seen his appeal against his sending off in Saturday's clash against Portsmouth rejected.
The FA Cup third round tie at Portman Road saw 19-year-old Trotter handed a straight red card midway through the first half by referee Mark Halsey, much to manager Jim Magilton's disbelief.
It was hoped that the FA appeals panel would rescind the dismissal, which TV replays showed to be dubious to say the least.
The young star, speaking after the game on the club's website stated: "I expected a yellow card. He said in his earpiece 'one footed yellow card'. There was a delay and he said 'sorry lad, I've got to send you off'."
Trotter will now serve a three-game suspension.
