Ipswich Town are sweating on the fitness of Gareth McAuley after he picked up a hamstring problem while on international duty.

The Tractor Boys skipper is considered doubtful for Saturday's visit of Swansea City after being withdrawn midway through the Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualifier against San Marino on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, fellow Ireland international Alex Bruce is expected to be fit despite injuring his groin during a 'B' team win over Nottingham Forest last week.

"I have spoken to the Ireland medical team and the injury with Alex is nothing too serious," Town physio Matt Byard told the club's official website.

"We will have another look at him, but hopefully he should be able to train with the first team over the next two days and be in contention for Swansea on Saturday."
