Ipswich Town have agreed a deal to sign Derby County goalkeeper Stephen Bywater on loan until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent switch to Portman Road in the summer.

The 26-year-old former Rochdale and West ham United shot-stopper moved to Pride Park at the beginning of last season and made 62 appearances for the Rams.

However, he has not featured in Paul Jewell's plans since before Christmas.

"Stephen's a young, ambitious keeper who knows what's needed to win promotion from this division," Magilton told Town's official website.

"We're delighted to have him with us and he'll stay here on loan with a view to making it a permanent move in the summer."

Magilton had been keen to sign a new keeper after allowing Neil Alexander to move to Rangers earlier this week.
