Town snare Dutch defender

Ipswich Town have wrapped up the signing of Dutch defender Pim Balkestein on a two-year contract.

The 21-year-old has joined the Championship club from Heerenveen for an undisclosed fee.

"We are delighted to have Pim at this club," manager Jim Magilton told the club's official website.

"He wasn't fazed by mixing with the first-team players when he came over for a trial with us.

"He is a confident lad who is aggressive in his play and has a cultured left foot.

"He is 6ft 3in, is an organiser, can pass a ball and is someone who is desperate for an opportunity."
