Town shelve Ameobi move

Ipswich Town have abandoned their bid to sign Shola Ameobi after the Newcastle striker failed to pass a medical at the Championship club.
The two clubs had agreed a fee of around £3million for the Ameobi, but Town boss Jim Magilton revealed he had pulled the plug on the deal due to concerns over a recent hamstring injury suffered by the former England Under-21 striker.
"It's disappointing but you have to be careful with hamstring injuries and we don't want a repeat of last season when Shefki Kuqi joined us and suffered a hamstring injury in his first game," he told the club's official website.
The 26-year-old now looks set to remain at St James' Park as the injury is not expected to clear up sufficiently before the transfer window closes on August 31.
